Source Selection Policy

By the NewEdgePolicy Editorial Team · Last updated 13 July 2026

We rank sources by authority. Regulators and primary documents sit at the top; insurer and aggregator marketing sits at the bottom and is never used as proof.

Our source hierarchy

  1. Regulators and government — IRDAI, RBI (where relevant), the Income Tax Department, the Ministry of Finance, and official gazettes.
  2. Primary product documents — the insurer's policy wording, prospectus, and IRDAI-filed brochure.
  3. Official data — IRDAI annual reports, handbooks, and claim-settlement disclosures.
  4. Reputable secondary reporting — used to find and cross-check primary sources, not as the final word.

Sources we exclude

We do not rely on insurer or aggregator marketing pages, unverified user forums, or content whose primary purpose is to sell a policy. Where market practice differs from the letter of a regulation, we flag the difference rather than paper over it.

Keeping this honest. If any statement here is inaccurate, out of date, or unclear, please tell us. We log corrections with the date they were made. This page is reviewed on our standard editorial cycle.
